Once Fred gets the orange Jalapeno Cheetos dust wiped off the inside of our windshield, we are on our way. Yes, these orange crunchy spicy puffs are our latest craving. They are nasty and disgusting and turn your fingertips an eerie atomic-orange color. But they are also irresistible. Weight Watchers Points Plus Plan, what’s that?
Our goal today is the Skookumchuk Narrows. These narrows form the entrance of Sechelt Inlet and is a Chinook name meaning “turbulent waters”. We have watched several videos on YouTube of kayakers maneuvering the turbulent tidal rapids that are famous for their spectacular whirlpools and whitewater.
But when we arrive we learn that the tide will be small and not the extra large tides we have seen on YouTube. It’s a 90-minute roundtrip hike and we decide to return on Wednesday when the tide will be large and we can watch some of its famous action.

We drive further down the coast and stop for lunch at a local café in Madeira village. We enjoy their tomato with sweet basil soup and grilled cheese on rustic wheat bread.
We look for a campground and decide to stay at Wellingdon Campground in Powell River. We have a fabulous site right on the beach and enjoy the evening listening to the little waves lap the shore. Fred builds a fire and I prepare salmon for the grill. I quickly cut up some potatoes for rustic mashed potatoes and throw some broccoli in a pot. It is our traditional dinner when we are in Canada: local wild salmon cooked on the grill.
We watch the sun go down, applaud its spectacular show, and sip some evening coffee.
Lights out around 10.
